Miley Cyrus attributes her new slim figure to lactose and gluten intolerance
Miley Cyrus has been spotted looking very lean and slender lately, and attributes her weight loss to a new diet free from lactose and gluten.
After accusations that she may have an eating disorder, the teen star tweeted: ‘For everyone calling me anorexic, I have a gluten and lactose allergy. It’s not about weight it’s about health. Gluten is crapppp anyway!’
She told one fan: ‘Everyone should try no gluten for a week! The change in your skin, physical and mental health is amazing. You won’t go back!’
Miley may have faced accusations of unhealthy dieting, but if indeed she genuinely is intolerant to lactose and gluten, then some weight loss is understandable.
When the body is intolerant/allergic to a food it retains water in a bid to dilute the toxins and can lead to weight gain, so when this food is eliminated this weight is quite rapidly dropped.
I learnt this from personal experience as I lost almost half a stone in a week after discovering my own lactose intolerance and subsequently cutting it out from my diet.
Add Miley’s regular pilates classes to these intolerances and it’s no wonder she looks so slim.
Her tweets about gluten got me thinking though, does gluten actually have any nutritional benefits? Some research has discovered that gluten itself doesn’t offer special nutritional benefits, but the many whole grains that contain gluten do. They’re rich in an array of vitamins and minerals, such as B vitamins and iron, as well as fiber.
However, there are many whole grains such as amaranth, quinoa and millet that are gluten free and still have health benefits.
While coeliac disease is thought to affect 1% of the British population, many more are believed to have difficulty digesting gluten which is what Miley Cyrus must have been struggling with.
What do you think about Miley Cyrus’ slim figure? Do you have trouble digesting gluten?
